Richard de Bondeville (a knight) served under William the Conqueror in the battle of Hastings in 1066. Richard de Bondeville’s descendants began immigrating to America in 1830, the name now having become Bonniwell. In 1839 the Bonniwells moved on to Milwaukee and Mequon. The area they settled became known as the Bonniwell settlement. George Bonniwell once lived in the Jonathan Clark House (on the corner of Cedarburg Road and Bonniwell).

Pigeon Creek also was home to Native Americans. The Potawatomi and Menominee Indians used the creek as their shopping center for deer steaks. The young scouts used bow and arrow to capture their dinner. Sometimes they would miss their shot. The arrowheads left behind were found by modern day children who played in the creek.
